19/09/2018 to 21/09/2018

This year's CIVITAS Forum Conference will take place from 19-21 September in Umeå, Sweden. The 16th edition of Europe's top sustainable mobility event will gather the CIVITAS community from across Europe and beyond.

Over three days, hundreds of policymakers, city representatives, academics, and practitioners will come together to debate pressing topics surrounding sustainable urban mobility and witness the pioneering solutions bringing cleaner, better transport to Europe.

Registration has now closed for this year's Forum! To those of you who registered, we very much look forward to seeing you in Umeå! If you cannot join us, follow #CIVITAS2018 and the CIVITAS Initiative on Twitter for the latest Forum updates.

Mobility for U and Me

Recognition is growing of transport’s social dimension - the level of mobility people enjoy shapes lives and prospects. It is vital that transport systems are environmentally friendly, accessible to all, and the services they offer adaptable and effective enough to meet users’ diverse needs.

Yet how can these clean, integrated, inclusive, and efficient transport systems be created? How can the measures they involve be replicated whilst ensuring economic viability? These critical questions lie behind this year’s CIVITAS Forum theme - “Mobility for U and Me”.

With 2018 declared the “Year of Multimodality” by Commissioner Bulc, it is time to start thinking about journeys as a single, coherent whole with integrated, last-mile solutions that ensure everyone and everything gets from A to B.

Enriching and exchanging knowledge

Thematic sessions on these and the other most urgent mobility topics will provide participants with fora to discover and discuss outstanding examples of work across and beyond the CIVITAS Initiative. Through this exchange, they will unearth examples of best practice, successful business models, and proven technologies.

Alongside these are the take-up and transfer sessions, the most interactive element of the programme. They offer a prime opportunity for participants to get hands-on with and experience cutting-edge urban mobility tools and methods in action. Walkshops, study tours, and other engaging engaging formats await!

What use is new knowledge if there are no opportunities to share it? A cocktail reception and gala dinner provide the perfect chance to catch up with old faces and meet new ones.

A series of distinguished speakers spanning public and European authorities, academia, and business awaits Forum participants. Those set to speak include Lena Erixon, Director of the Swedish Transport Administration; Maja Bakran, Deputy Director-General of DG MOVE; David Zipper, Resident Fellow at the German Marshall Fund; and Stina Nilimaa Wickström, Vice President of Product Design at the Volvo Group.

Experiencing Umeå and its innovations

Umeå is a smart and sharing city with an inclination for innovation. Located in northeast Sweden, it is one of the country's leading examples of sustainable urban development and has impeccable green credentials. Site visits will allow everyone to experience first-hand why this is so.

Climb aboard one of the world's most energy-efficient, clean, and quiet buses to visit Umeå’s ultrafast charging station. Discover how to create safe and secure gender-sensitive infrastructure, or travel deep into the Swedish forest to see the region‘s biofuel vision and meet the producers behind it. See all site visits here.

This commitment to cleaner, better, inclusive transport and urban development, alongside its involvement in the CIVITAS Political Advisory Committee, make Umeå an ideal Forum host.

Arrive in Umeå sustainably! For those flying into Umeå, test ride an e-bike into the city! The 4.3km journey takes less than ten minutes and your luggage will be brought to your hotel for you. To take advantage of this free offer (arrivals only), register for one of ten e-bikes here. This is only available from Monday - Friday.
